Feb 19, A Commission!

Whew! time passes very strangely lately.... I can't believe Monday was just a few days ago. And it was 50 degrees- it took me an hour and a half to get home yesterday after school, because of the slushy snow and the slippery slight inclines that people couldn't get up and had to back down. The snow is BEAUTIFUL and I am so grateful because I didn't want winter to end quite yet.

And this is a commission I just sent off yesterday! Otto was a fun one to paint~

January 20, a Commission, because we could all use a smile...

Not that this makes the world that much better, but I do believe in holding joy where we find it. And my joy is in animals, and pets, and painting those things...

I put this in the wrong spot on my blog so I'm reposting it now, in February!

This is a commission that makes me smile, and made me smile as I was painting it. I am very grateful for all the love our pets give us, and fill our hearts, and steady our nerves so we can keep standing up and working to have the best world possible for our future adults, our children, to live in.

Oh, and I'll also include a video from the Art Sled Rally for you, Sat Jan 17th, here in Minneapolis- it was so joyful and ridiculous and the best medicine for me~

Reba and Grace

This was a lovely one to paint, and I got to paint it not just once but twice! My panels I was using developed hairline cracks after I was nearly finished with the painting which was extremely frustrating, and needless to say, I won't be using that manufacturer any more... poop.

It is always a challenge to paint a pair of pets, and the better the photo of the two of them is, the better the painting will be!  This was a good photo and I loved the bright light and dark shadows involved.

Oh, and I'm also excited to invite you to come to the Bloomington Center for the Arts or Artistry this coming Thursday the 12th of February for a Reception for my show there, Minnesota Neighbors! I'll be there from 6-8 with some snacks and beverages and I'd love to see you if you're in town!

Jan 5, Another Commission!

This morning the dogs woke me up a half an hour earlier than I needed to get up. So I got up anyway. Over winter break, I'd let them out and feed them and go back to bed. Can't do that today! Time to get back to work!

And speaking of work, I'm still working on a few recent commissions that came in just before Christmas with the understanding that they'd get done when they get done. That's a nice time line, though honestly I do work best with a deadline!

This is a double pet portrait for a friend from high school. He was hoping I would include our mascot, the Brady Bronco hidden somewhere in the image, and I tried but it just was too obvious anywhere I put it and it bothered me, so I took it out.

I just loved those steady, patient, attentive and loving faces...
