June 30th, The OFFICIAL LIST for 30 Dogs in 30 Days!

Wow!  I am so appreciative of your patience and enthusiasm!  I'm feeling like I'm not quite getting this season's dog project off with as much fanfare as I'd like, but I have a lovely pile of pups to be pushing my way through this month!
Honestly, I'm out of the country at the moment, and will be back on Monday, and it's made things a bit trickier than usual to get this project rolling, which is why I feel like I'm late with this list, and I apologize to those people on it because I usually send out a personal e-mail to everyone included and let them know and ask for them to send me a story and what size if they want to purchase their paintings and all that stuff...

But I'm tired and I want to get to bed so I can paint tomorrow so I'll get to the list now, shall I?

June 27, The Sheep Next Door

Wow!  It's been a whirlwind here- great time at the Hebden Handmade Parade!  Still working on getting some kind of pics together for that.... here's one post... and here is an amazing Facebook post! We are the crazy hermit crab (as a family!) about halfway through!

And this is a tiny painting I was able to do this eve, though exhausted after a lovely day of yoga and shopping and meeting artist Kate Lycett!  More about her tomorrow! or the next day...  She was lovely and so was her studio and her tea, and I had to nab a book while I was there...

And here is the painting for the day!  One of our lovely neighbors-  I see them every morning through the big glass windows upstairs~

3.5 x5 acrylic on wood, $45
won't ship till I'm back though!

And look below to see that sheep in his natural habitat...

June 22, Bear Time Chuckle

Another demo from this past weekend!  We'll see what comes up in the next few days-  I'm trying out a Facebook ad for the 30 Dogs in 30 Days Project-  we'll see what happens!

This one is 16x16 on cradled panel-  I can't say enough about how much I love painting on WOOD.  Or at least, on a non-canvas surface- maybe it's more the solidity of wood- it doesn't give when I use my brush with ferocity...

16x16 acrylic on archival wood, $500

SHIPPING INCLUDED on this one, since it's so FUN!

June 21, Otter Swift Slide on Solstice!

This is a painting I did as a demo this weekend in Grand Marais at my lovely painting class, in which I was attempting to demonstrate how to do one stroke per color (ala Carol Marine!) and it was such a great one to attempt because of all that crazy underwater reflected light stuff going on!
And those wonderful purples and browns and pale oranges of his fur... and the light in the green water...
Can you tell I do love otters?
And since OTTERS as so much like water dogs (yes! they ARE), I'm also going to mention again that I am looking for submissions of photos of dogs for me to paint in July.  I am doing my annual "30 Dogs in 30 Days" Painting Project, and I need a few more images to paint!  I collect all my photos and go through and decide who is getting painted on what day in July, and then I paint that dog on that day! A couple will end up being in public too~ this always happens~
And there is a lot more info here, or you can always e-mail me and ask too~  I love these projects!  Still settling on a charity as well~  and I'm open to suggestions!

And we'll be traveling for a bit here, to see some friends in the UK, so there may be a bit of a delay in responses!

June 19, Sally Schnoodle

We had an incredible weekend at the Art Colony!  SO much happening in two days, it felt like a week! Of the seven artists in this workshop, I think I learned the most.  That usually happens to me when I get to work with other adult artists, painting and painting and playing and laughing!
This is a shot of us with our two studio pups wandering around- Max took the photo- I think this is the only one that was in focus...
And I had to take a photo of my name on the Art Colony blackboard with Hazel Belvoe's too!

And this is my painting for the day, of one of our studio pups, sweet little Sally!

June 15, Shiloh, Golden Wolf

I met Shiloh this morning- she's enormous, fluffy and red brown, and her owner explained that she's a golden retriever/wolf hybrid, from Red Lake.  She seemed calm and well-behaved.  Teddy was a bit nervous around her but Sally wanted to play.
I painted this outside, which was actually harder than you'd think.  At first I was under a big circus tent with red and white stripes and that totally screwed up my color perception.  Then I tried sitting out under the sun and it was way too bright.  I'm kinda happy with it now~

June 7, Gruntled

As in "DISgruntled", so perhaps he's LESS gruntled than some~
I am really enjoying painting these little paintings!  I'll see if I can get some photos taken of them hanging so you can see how sweet they look together-

I was just thinking, these little paintings would be awful sweet for someone's "Pappa Bear" coming up a week from Sunday, right?  I can ship them to you tomorrow!  Just let me know!

I am also cranking up for this year's "30 Dogs in 30 Days" project this July, and have already gotten a number of dogs signed up!  Here's the link for all the info, and what I need from you are photos of your dog!  Yay!  Get 'em in quick!  They're stacking up already!

June 3, Decisions- Bearing Left

This is one of the larger pieces I painted up at the Art Colony a month ago~  there's one that matches it, going in the opposite direction.  Guess what I titled that one?
And again, you should really look at his feet! My favorite part!  No, I lied- I love painting the face best~  well, yes!  That and the ears, and the back, and the legs.....

June 2, White Earth Bear

And here's another example of why I enjoy painting black animals so much!  The coat reflects the light, and it is a lovely thing.  I did talk to a couple people at Art-A Whirl about bears they'd seen in the woods, and they said the black fur was so dense and dark, it was like a hole.  This seems to me to fit the matte black gesso I use, because it isn't shiny, but the paint I use is, so you end up with that contrast of shiny to not-so-shiny.  Technical terms~  yes~
That nose, with those lips-  probably as good as fingers at getting berries off bushes!

6x6 acrylic on wood panel, ready to hang!
